Safety and Risk Assessments

Arete Outdoor Centre has an exemplary safety record. Outdoor activities have been running at the centre since its original inception in the late sixties. These many years of experience have shaped and developed the centre into a well respected and leading outdoor learning establishment. All of our staff are fully qualified and experienced as seen on their staff profile page.

We are assessed bi-annually by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) which is governed by the HSE. Our license number is L11370. Gareth, the operations manager, is a member of the Association of Heads of Outdoor Education Centres (AHOEC) that promotes and advises on high quality outdoor learning experiences. We are a provider of the national governing body awards including mountain leader qualifications and single pitch climbing awards through Mountain Training. We have also be verified as an approved DofE provider (AAP) to run expeditions.

We have risk assessments for all the activities and full operational procedures.  These are verified by technical advisors all of whom hold the highest UK qualifications and many years of experience. At the centre we continually review our procedures and keep updated through involvement with the Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI), National Coasteering Charter (NCC) and British Canoe Union (BCU). We can provide copies of any paperwork your school requires before booking a course.
