A highly popular activity and rightly so, Coasteering is a must if you like the sea.

Swimming in the Sea

Coasteering involves getting wet in the beautiful waters around the Welsh coastline. We issue everyone with a full wetsuit to keep you warm, plus buoyancy aids so it doesn't matter if there are non-swimmers. Routes can be chosen to either minimize or maximize swimming time depending on the group's preference.

Cliff Jumps

There are jumps of all heights to enjoy whilst coasteering.  From a simple step into the water for younger ages, to full jumps where you have time to think before you hit the water, for adults and older age groups. We build up your confidence, giving advice and coaching into the safest style of jump and the decision making that goes into selecting a good place to jump from. No jumps are compulsory so individuals can choose their own height. It makes it all the more exciting when you are stepping off a real cliff into the open sea below.

Waves, Whirlpools and Flows

Groups love to float in the waves, be moved around by little flows or even be twirled in whirlpools as the water moves around the rocks. Depending on the sea conditions we can seek out these fun sections for the group to play in while coasteering.

Rock Scrambling

There are plenty of opportunities to safely climb and scramble over the rocks as we move from one section to the next. Climbing challenges are sought above deep water, to test your skills.

Coasteering works well as a half day activity combined with Sea Level Traversing, which is run at the same sea cliff venues as a dry roped activity. This gives a great and varied full day of activity.

Our coasteering venues are generally found on the west coast of the island of Anglesey, about a 40minute drive away. We feel very fortunate to have access to this stunning coastal environment and our in depth knowledge of the area enables us to select the right venue with the type of group, weather and sea conditions in mind.

Educational Opportunities

We are always seeking to teach the groups about the environment we are enjoying and the best way to safely take part in the activity. This involves helping and encouraging each other and appreciating the unique habitats and wildlife found in this environment  Finding opportunies to look at and discuss the coastal processes which shape this coastline can be built into the day as we explore all that this environment has to offer.

As with our other activities, coasteering can be booked by private Adult or Family Groups. Prices start at £195 for two people with each additional person (up to a maximum group size of 10) adding £15 to the cost. Contact us for available dates.

Coasteering is an integral part of many of our Schools and Youth courses at Arete. Example 5 day catered residetial from £235 per pupil.

Coasteering could well be integrated into the multi-activity, water-based or rock-based Gold DofE Residentials or young persons' Summer Camps.
