White Water Kayaking

We have specialist kayaks to use down white water rapids. An exciting activity, white water kayaking is ideal for those that love an extra rush of adrenaline.

Introduction to White Water Kayaking

The thrill and excitement of paddling down white water rapids easily captivates the groups attention. There are many great introductory rapids and friendly waves to play on, in a safe and fun environment, around North Wales. We use rapids with flat pools below to introduce the group to the activity, allowing for spills and swims.

If the group haven't kayaked before we initially have a morning of coaching on flat water working on key kayaking skills. In the afternoon we then put these into action on the rapids. For groups with previous flat water kayaking experience they are able to progress quickly on to the white water. We tailor each activity day for your group, selecting the best venue and course content for them.

White Water Venues

Around Snowdonia and North Wales there are many rivers that offer white water kayaking at all grades. The rivers rise and fall quickly however unlike other areas we are fortunate that in North Wales there is always a river with enough water to kayak on.

Our local venue is the Afon Llugwy just 15 minutes away in Capel Curig. A beautiful setting with a lake start. The rapids slowly build, cumulating with the hardest Jim's Bridge Rapid at the end. If this river is too low the Dee near Llangollen offers a low water option with great pool drop rapids that are all easily accessed from the car park. Another unique option is the tidal venues of Menai Straits splitting Anglesey from mainland Wales or Four Mile Bridge near Holyhead. Tidal flows produce rapids at certain times of the tide.

As with our other activities, white water kayaking can be booked by private Adult or Family Groups. Prices start at £195 for two people with each additional person (up to a maximum group size of 10) adding £15 to the cost. Contact us for available dates.

White water kayaking can form part of some Schools and Youth courses at Arete, but is more suitable for older children. Example 5 day catered residetial from £235 per pupil.
